Casa Nazaret, an orphanage in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic needed ten wheelchairs for severely challenged children, a washer and medication. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we were able to increase comfort and accessibility through new wheelchairs, provide expensive, much needed medication as well as purchase and install a new washer.
There was also a need to help with organization and storage. The garage had become overrun with dirty clothes, due to an inability to pay for the monthly water service and a temperamental washer. That's an example of how labor -- the gritty, hard work, is also an area where we volunteer. That was June 2014.
As we were preparing to return a year later, the requests and needs were numerous and varied --- running the gamut from shoes to elementary school supplies and snacks. This time we were asked to help 86 students at one of the poorest elementary schools there, Los Mameyes. The team was able to provide backpacks with toiletries and toys tucked inside as well as tennis shoes. Word spread in advance of our arrival the week of June 22nd, and more than the expected students and as well as adults, showed up, but we did our best to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet the need.
Not far from the school, there are a couple of dozen senior citizens, who would have no one to care for them if not for the residential center. Our team was able to help stock the food pantry and provide items like beef and desserts.
These are just a couple of examples of what we do in His Name!
And yet there is so much more to be done.
