The numbers are staggering and heartbreaking. As of this post on the morning of Monday, August 3rd, the novel corona virus has tragically taken the lives of more than 689K worldwide and 155K in the United States. There are over 4.8 million cases in this country 18 million cases worldwide. COVID-19 has shaken the foundation of our global society to its core. And in this country, partisan bickering has forever changed our perception of man’s commitment to humanity.
In these challenging times it is imperative for the Christian community to lean into our faith. God has not forsaken us. He is Abba Father and will never leave us on our own.
Abba is an Aramaic word for father, used by Jesus and Paul to address God in relation to personal intimacy. Therefore, we must abide in Him and mirror His ways.
If ever there was a need for reaching the underserved children and elderly of the world, it is now. Our response must be as bold and aggressive as the virus that has beset us. So as we draw nearer to Him, our missions become more effective to those we seek to serve.
God has not called a time out. He is calling us to be kinder and more loving. His ship is about to sail and He is calling us to weigh anchor.
So, as we raise our sails let us also raise our sights. Let us broaden our gaze to include domestic opportunities right here at home.
It has been my experience that God’s majesty is often on full display in the midst of a storm. So yes, in the middle of the pandemic God has us on foreign and domestic missions.
